Restaurant Waste to Superfood Powder

Our mission is to reduce food waste, minimize our carbon footprint, and alleviate hunger across the country by providing a nutrient-dense powder that is both healthy for our bodies and our environment. Each night thousands of pounds of edible viable untouched food is thrown away in our restaurants daily. Yet there are still millions of people who go to sleep hungry who are not aware of where their next meal will come from. We are proposing to bridge the gap between the food waste from restaurants and the food insecure. We will primarily focus on using the whole grains (such as brown rice and quinoa) and the juice pulp remaining from juicing fruits and veggies. We will do this by taking that left over food, dehydrating it, grinding it up, and packing it into a superfood nutritious powder that is lightweight and easy to add to shakes, smoothies, oatmeal, or used in sauces. We currently have signed with four restaurants in the San Diego area who have agreed to donate their grains and greens to our project. We are currently working on perfecting the formula for maximum nutrition and for a delicious taste.

Now that we have talked about how we will help reduce the food waste issue, let's dive into how we will help alleviate hunger throughout our communities. With our low cost of produce, we will have a 1:1 model in which for every one bottle that is purchased, one is donated to a food relief organization such as the local food bank. With this we project to provide 40,000 meals to the food insecure population, reduce 127,000 lbs of food waste, and prevent 1.3 million lbs of C02 into the atmosphere that would have otherwise come from the food waste from landfills annually. With the help of IdeaScale we plan on making this dream a reality.
